Frequently asked questions

Following are some FAQs regarding the YSSFC. Please view the following questions. When you click on a question of special interest to you you will immediately scroll down to view the answer. If you have an other questions please feel free to contact us.

Can I pay my fee over time with a payment plan?
No. We have had nothing but trouble in the past with payment plans, post dated cheques and the like. First, we feel we give all players fair warning at least 4 months ahead of the fee due date so they may get the money together. Second, we have to budget assuming all funds from player fees are in on the date we set. We cannot budget assuming monies will be spread out over the duration of the season. Finally, we have found that a complete financial commitment by the player results in a more committed player.

When is my fee due?
Anytime up to and including pre-established registration dates. Only after we receive your player fee (cheques cleared) will we issue your equipment. See the information page for dates.

Top

Where does the money from my fee go?
It goes to keep the Storm in business. Player fees will go toward; Equipment purchases before and during the season League fees Stadium rental Practice field permit Trainer fees and supplies bus/referees Awards/trophies Website

Top

How can I pay my fee?
You can pay your fee by cheque, money order, Visa, Master Card or cash. Cheques must be payable to the York Simcoe Storm Football.

Top

What do I have to do to get a release?
Releases will rarely be granted and usually because a player has moved. The League will check ID to prove living location. If we do consider a release all fees must have been paid in full.

Top

Are there tryouts? Do you cut players?
The Varsity roster will keep 55 players, 50 on active and 5 on reserve. A reserve can be moved to the active roster as a result of injury to an active roster player or other reasons. If we can equip you we will keep you. Outside of disciplinary reasons or blatant violations of policy, the only reason we would let a junior player go would be that we have an unusually high number of players making it impossible to coach effectively or to equip the players.

Top

Do the coaches get paid?
No. Strangely enough, this has been a question too often asked. The Storm is a volunteer organization.

Top

Does anyone make money in the Storm Organization?
No. The Storm, are non-profit organizations and no member can receive payment for services. All profits must be funneled into the operating costs of the organization.

Top

If I don't start, will I see playing time?
That decision rests with the coaching staff. All attempts will be made to get all players playing time but there can be no doubt some players will receive more playing time than others. It depends on game time team situations, experience, practice history and attitude. Your player fee does not guarantee playing time.

Top

What do I get to keep after the season is over?
Each player will keep his practice jersey, t-shirt and game socks. You also have the option of ordering a season game dvd so you may put together a highlight tape.

Top

This fee goes directly to the League to cover insurance, statistics and some administrative costs

I am 16 (or under) can I play for the Varsity Team?
All players ages 16 and under as of May 31st, midnight of the playing year must register with the York Simcoe Junior Storm. At such time as both Junior and Varsity coaching staffs agree that a 16 yr old will benefit less from playing junior than they would varsity will that player be moved to the formal Varsity roster, contingent on the players desire to do so. No player will be moved from the junior roster if such a move would jeopardize the ability of the junior team from fielding an appropriate number of players. This decision must take place prior to the first regular season game of that season.
